Šentvid pri Stični, 15. 1. 2013 | press release
The President of the Republic of Slovenia, Borut Pahor, today visited the Centre for Treatment of Children’s Diseases in Šentvid pri Stični at the invitation of Matjaž and Darja Strazberger. The Strazbergers invited the President to visit the centre where their twin sons Anže and Enej are being treated for a severe form of cerebral palsy, which requires them to spend a lot of time in therapy.
During the visit, the President expressed his support for the parents, who are doing their utmost for high quality and effective therapy and see a new hope in the so-called “therasuit” method, which might enable Anže and Enej to begin to walk. Also to this end, the Regional Red Cross Association in Ljubljana has opened a special account to which contributions can be made, as this innovative healthcare service is available only on a self-payment basis.
In the course of the visit to the children, a relaxed atmosphere with lots of fun and laughter was created during therapy, classes and rest period alike. The involvement of Anže and Enej’s parents and efforts of the medical staff and hospital management are commendable. Despite all the good work, though, in the subsequent discussion the President exchanged views with the management of the centre, medical staff and parents on further steps to be taken with regard to the possibly increasing public awareness and the financial capacity of the state as well as good-hearted donors to ensure that scientific advances can be used to improve the everyday treatment of children.
President Pahor, accompanied by manager Magdalena Urbančič, also visited at the Centre for Treatment of Children’s Diseases in Šentvid pri Stični the intensive care unit where the rehabilitation of chronically ill children is carried out, the gymnasium where programmes for children with weight problems are organised and the “A and B units” intended for workshops for children and parents.
President Borut Pahor also helped to cheer the children with gifts of sweets and toys, which were much appreciated.
