The President of the Republic of Slovenia: "Within our modern interconnected international community even the most complex, difficult and demanding political and security issues are resolved in a peaceful manner"

Postojna, 27. 8. 2014 | press release

Borut Pahor, the President of the Republic of Slovenia and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, participated in the presentation of the international military exercise Immediate Response 2014 at the Baron Andrej Čehovin Barracks in Postojna, where he also addressed those present.

In his address, the President of the Republic emphasised that "All of us who are gathered here today are in the service of peace. We are entrusted with a variety of powers and tasks, but they all have one common goal: to protect and strengthen the security of our homeland, our alliance and its role in ensuring international peace." Peace cannot be taken for granted, which makes it all the more important that within our modern interconnected international community even the most complex, difficult and demanding political and security issues are resolved in a peaceful manner. If anyone, in opposition to the United Nations Charter, uses force and threatens peace and security, it is our joint responsibility to respond appropriately and commensurately to the security challenge and ensure stability according to the Charter's principles and our obligations under it.

The President said that the effort required for a commitment to finding a peaceful resolution is greatly rewarded by the preservation of stability and trust in solving problems with dialogue and reasonable agreements. He added that this is what is hoped for and expected from everyone who has an important role today in solving the critical issues within the international community. He also expressed his wish to those gathered that they achieve their established goals in the exercise as well as deepen their mutual trust and friendship.

The President of the Republic then met with the exercise leaders, inspected the brigade command post as well as the battalion command post of the 10th infantry regiment from Ljubljana, and saw a presentation of the actual activities taking place in the field.
