Ljubljana, 22. 6. 2021 | press release
The President of the Republic of Slovenia, Borut Pahor, today received the President of the National Council of Austria, Wolfgang Sobotka, who is currently on an official visit to Slovenia.
Mr Sobotka first congratulated President Pahor on the forthcoming 30th anniversary of the independence of the Republic of Slovenia and wished our country a successful presidency of the Council of the EU. President Pahor reminded his interlocutor of last year's joint celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Carinthian plebiscite, which confirmed and strengthened the friendship between the two neighbouring countries with the participation and speeches of Presidents Van der Bellen and Pahor.
President Pahor and the President of Austrian Parliament agreed that the two countries maintained friendly and extensive relations both at the political and professional level and strengthened them through successful cooperation in regional, European and multilateral connections.
The interlocutors paid particular attention to the current situation in the Western Balkans and the Euro-Atlantic perspective of the countries in the region – the guest was particularly interested in President Pahor's assessment of the current situation, especially following the latest summit of leaders of the Brdo-Brijuni Process initiative hosted by the Slovenian president in Slovenia a month before.
