Trieste, 10. 7. 2021 | press release
Today Mayor of Trieste Roberto Dipiazza presented President Pahor with the city's highest award, the Three Coats of Arms of Trieste (Trije grbi Trsta – Tre sigilli di Trieste), at the Municipal Palace in Trieste.
The President of the Republic of Slovenia was moved by the presentation, seeing the event as an expression of a sincere and fruitful cooperation: "I understand this as a sign that we have to continue walking the path of harmony, cooperation and friendship that protects our and our children's peace, safety and wellbeing."
"In a few days, a year will have passed since the commemorative tribute, when I and my friend and counterpart Sergio Mattarella shook hands at Bazovica/Basovizza. I considered this handshake a sign of trust and friendship," explained President Pahor. He added that this gesture contained an honest sense of strength, that harmony, friendship and European future shall overcome; all those values for which he and his friend and counterpart Mattarella have always been and will always be committed to.
"All of this happened when the memorandum on the return of the Narodni dom cultural centre was signed. I ask the Mayor and the provincial authorities to undertake every effort for the Narodni dom to be legally transferred to the Slovenian community, just as we agreed at that point," urged the Slovenian President.
Mayor Dipiazza assured that only a few formal obstacles remain, which they will sincerely endeavour to eliminate as soon as possible.
