Mr Yang arrived in Slovenia, as the next country to hold the Presidency of the Council of the EU, from Moscow, where he met with President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin. He thanked President Pahor for his welcome and conveyed to him the greetings of President of the People's Republic of China Xi Jinping.

President Pahor and Mr Yang exchanged their views on current issues in the international community. They both advocated the strengthening of bilateral relations, particularly in the economic field.

President Pahor recalled that 25 years ago he led the first Slovenian parliamentary delegation to China. He invited President of the People's Republic of China Xi Jinping to come for an official visit next year, when Slovenia will be marking the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

President Pahor stressed the importance of multilateralism and responsibility for world peace and development in ensuring the well-being of present and future generations. He welcomed the fact that the two countries have similar views in this regard and called for the strengthening of relations between the EU and China and for regular dialogue aimed at bridging the gap between their different views.
