President Pahor and the Standing Committee for Climate Policy begin a series of consultations on Slovenia's energy future

The President of the Republic of Slovenia, Borut Pahor, met with the members of the Standing Committee for Climate Policy of the President of the Republic of Slovenia. The meeting was attended by the following invited experts: Prof. Dr Robert Golob, the expert in electric power generation; Prof. Dr Iztok Tiselj, the expert in nuclear energy; and Dr Marko Maver, the expert in environmental law.
In a live and in-depth debate, they discussed Slovenia's energy future – with the aim of making Slovenia carbon-neutral and energy self-sufficient. The invited experts presented the energy supply situation and possible scenarios, with participants being particularly interested in the possibilities of energy supply from renewable energy resources. They also spoke about growing trends in electricity demand and about nuclear energy as a resource that Slovenia and its citizens already have experience of.
The participants agreed that Slovenia's energy future is an important strategic issue on which we need expert and societal consensus. President Pahor and the members of the Standing Committee therefore decided to take an active part in the debate on the energy future of Slovenia and to organise a series of consultations on this topic in the coming months.
