President of the Republic of Slovenia receives prominent members of the Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts, authors of the Statement on Slovenian Reconciliation

Ljubljana, 15. 3. 2021 | press release

Today, the President of the Republic of Slovenia, Borut Pahor, received the President of the Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts (SAZU), Dr Peter Štih, and the members of the working group that prepared the Statement on Slovenian Reconciliation, adopted by the Assembly of the Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of Slovenia's independence. The authors of the Statement, academicians Dr Tadej Bajd, Dr Tine Hribar, Dr Jože Krašovec and an associate member of the Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts, Dr Peter Vodopivec, attended a reception at the Presidential Palace.

In June 2020, after a change in the Academy's management, the President of the Republic of Slovenia, Borut Pahor, received the new President of the Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts, Dr Peter Štih, former President Dr Tadej Bajd, and members of the organising committee of the Slovenian Reconciliation conference, who informed President Pahor of the preparations for the symposium Slovenian Reconciliation that the Academy held on the occasion of the 30th reconciliation ceremony in Kočevski Rog and the centenary of the birth of Archbishop Dr Alojzij Šuštar. At the time, President Pahor invited the distinguished guests to consider preparing the text of the Statement on Slovenian Reconciliation, convinced that the Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts, as the highest national scientific and artistic institution, is the only institution in a position to do so and that the occasion of the 30th anniversary of Slovenia's independence was the best time therefor.

Today, the President of the Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts handed the Statement on Reconciliation to the President of the Republic of Slovenia on behalf of the Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts. President Pahor and President Štih made statements on the occasion.
