The President of the Republic of Slovenia, Mr Borut Pahor, is hosting the President of the Federal Republic of Germany, Mr Joachim Gauck, who has arrived in Slovenia on a two-day official visit.

Ljubljana, 25. 11. 2014 | press release

This is the second meeting of the two presidents, the first being a working visit to the Federal Republic of Germany by Slovenian President Pahor in April 2013. Following an official reception with military honours in Congress Square in Ljubljana and a tête-à-tête meeting, Slovenian President Borut Pahor conferred on his German counterpart Joachim Gauck the Order for Exceptional Services, the highest decoration of the Republic of Slovenia. The decoration is an acknowledgment for Mr Gauck’s contribution to the strengthening of political dialogue and friendly ties between Germany and Slovenia at bilateral and multilateral levels and for providing all-round support to democratic and integration processes in Europe. President Gauck then presented his Slovenian counterpart with the Grand Cross of the German Order of Merit, the highest decoration of the Federal Republic of Germany.

Grounds for the decoration:

The decoration of the Order for Exceptional Services is an acknowledgment to the President of the Federal Republic of Germany, Mr Joachim Gauck, for his contribution to the strengthening of political dialogue and friendly ties between the Federal Republic of Germany and the Republic of Slovenia at both bilateral and multilateral levels.

The Republic of Slovenia greatly appreciates the active role played by the Federal Republic of Germany in the European integration process and genuinely respects Germany’s recognition of the efforts of the Slovenian nation for national independence and integration into the Euro-Atlantic circle of democratic countries. The Order for Exceptional Services is Slovenia’s recognition and gratitude extended to Germany for its support on Slovenia’s path to sovereignty, prosperity and progress since Slovenia gained its independence. The support continues today in the spirit of joint declaration on enhanced cooperation between the two countries. The visit of President Gauck to Slovenia reaffirms the friendly ties and partnership between the two countries.

The Republic of Slovenia much appreciates the dedicated and continuous efforts of President Gauck to achieve equality and protection of the freedom and rights of all citizens of the European Union. His efforts strengthen democratic processes in Europe and European integration and importantly contribute to the strengthening of international peace, security and stability.
