Ljubljana, 3. 3. 2022 | press release

Today, 3 March 2022, the President of the Republic of Slovenia, Borut Pahor, met with the new US Ambassador to the Republic of Slovenia, Jamie Lindler Harpootlian.

President Pahor and Ambassador Harpootlian exchanged their views on the current situation in Ukraine, stressing the importance of strong international unity and of a clear and strong response by the international community to Russia’s military attack on Ukraine.

At the request of Ambassador Harpootlian, President Pahor briefed the latter on his assessment of the situation in the Western Balkans and expressed his concern that the current crisis in Ukraine could have a further negative impact on the security and stability of the region. He reiterated his call for a faster EU enlargement process.

The President and the Ambassador also touched on the 30th anniversary of the diplomatic relations between the two countries and agreed to celebrate this year’s Slovenian–American Friendship Day, planned for early April.
