Slovenian President Borut Pahor holds a video conference with Moldovan President Maia Sandu

Today, the President of the Republic of Slovenia, Borut Pahor, had a video conference with the President of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu.

President Pahor congratulated President Sandu on her election in the presidential elections held in December. President Sandu informed President Pahor of the main priorities of her term of office. She said that she hopes that Moldova will draw closer to the European Union during this time and strengthen its cooperation with the EU Member States, including Slovenia. President Pahor expressed strong support for President Sandu's efforts in the fields of the rule of law and eradicating corruption. In light of the Eastern Partnership Summit, expected to take place in the autumn of 2021, President Pahor welcomed Moldova's cooperation and the initiative for the programming period beyond 2020.

The presidents also discussed the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. Moldova is again seeing a rise in infections, while in Slovenia the number of infections is declining slower than had been expected. They agreed that the post-epidemic recovery should be used to relaunch the economy and transition to sustainable development.

The Slovenian President availed himself of the opportunity to invite the Moldovan President to visit Slovenia.
