Hungarian President’s official visit to Slovenia tomorrow and today’s telephone conversation between Slovenian President Pahor and Italian President Napolitano

Ljubljana, 20. 5. 2013 | press release

Hungarian President to pay official visit to Slovenia

The President of the Republic of Hungary, János Áder, will be paying an official visit to the Republic of Slovenia on Tuesday, 21 May 2013, at the invitation of the President of the Republic of Slovenia, Borut Pahor.
This is the last in a series of introductory bilateral meetings between the Slovenian President and the leaders of neighbouring countries, this time held in Slovenia. President Pahor has thus shown the importance he attaches to friendly relations with neighbouring countries, with which Slovenia has developed a wide range of historical and cultural relations. Most of Slovenia’s trade in goods is with its neighbours, and the majority of foreign direct investments in Slovenia originate from them.

At the meeting, President Pahor will place considerable attention on comprehensive cooperation between Slovenia and Hungary, evaluate the development of bilateral economic relations, and assess how to make better use of untapped potentials to boost economic and other cooperation.

Special attention will be placed on protection of the Slovenian minority in Hungary and the Hungarian minority in Slovenia. In their discussion, the two presidents will touch upon current issues relating to the European Union and its future development. Slovenia and Hungary are both supporters of further EU enlargement in the Western Balkans, the region towards which both have a special responsibility, while they also cooperate on a number of regional initiatives, in particular the Central European Initiative.

Today’s telephone conversation between Slovenian President Pahor and Italian President Napolitano

In the spirit of good neighbourly relations, Slovenian President Boris Pahor had a telephone conversation with Italian President Giorgio Napolitano, congratulating him on his re-election. The two statesmen expressed their commitment to enhancing comprehensive cooperation between Slovenia and Italy. President Pahor also thanked the Italian President for his contribution towards resolving the issue involving the daily newspaper Primorski dnevnik. President Napolitano made an official invitation to President Pahor to visit Rome.
