President Pahor receives LI Yong, Director-General of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization

The President of the Republic of Slovenia, Borut Pahor, today received LI Yong, the Director-General of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) on his official visit to Slovenia. Also today, the UNIDO Director-General opened the second Regional Conference on Technological and Industrial Parks in Ljubljana.

President Pahor and the Director-General discussed the activities of UNIDO to provide sustainable industrial development in line with the commitments under the Lima Declaration. Mr Pahor reaffirmed the position of the Republic of Slovenia supporting an inclusive and sustainable industrial development which should strive to reduce the differences between the rich and the poor and, in particular, between developed and developing regions of the world. The partners in the discussions agreed that special attention should be paid to green technologies, which would be based on environmental protection technologies and the use of renewable sources. In the future it will be an environmentally friendly economy using such green technologies that will be responsible for creating the majority of new jobs, they stressed.
During their talks, the President and the Director-General expressed their belief that the second Regional Conference on Technological and Industrial Parks will contribute to the promotion of local economic and industrial development in South-East Europe. They shared the view that through the exchange of good practices and the presentation of successful projects, the conference would contribute to increased productivity and the achievement of the region’s developmental objectives.
