Antalya, Turkey, 11. 3. 2022 | press release

The President of the Republic of Slovenia, Borut Pahor, at the invitation of the President of the Republic of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, today attended the Antalya Diplomacy Forum, which is taking place in Antalya, Turkey, from 11 to 13 March. After delivering a speech in the opening debate of this year’s forum, President Pahor met with the President of the Republic of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. President Erdoğan thanked the Slovenian President for his speech at the diplomacy forum and invited him to pay an official visit to Turkey, where he would also address the diplomatic corps. The Slovenian President accepted the invitation.

In their talks, the presidents reaffirmed the good and friendly relations between Slovenia and Turkey. They considered that the relations reflect the effects of the strategic partnership that they concluded on behalf of both countries in 2011, when they were both prime ministers. President Pahor then underlined the good cooperation between the two countries, including within NATO, which, he said, is facing one of the biggest challenges in its history. President Pahor and President Erdoğan devoted a large part of their talks to Russia’s military invasion of Ukraine. They condemned this attack on the territorial sovereignty of Ukraine. In this regard, they agreed that we should not forget the Western Balkans, where the situation could deteriorate rapidly.

The two presidents expressed their concern about the institutional and political crisis in Bosnia and Herzegovina and considered it important to keep its integration into the EU on the EU’s agenda. President Pahor stressed that enlargement was now more than ever the most important geopolitical and strategic issue.
