Slovenian President Pahor and German President Steinmeier talk at length on the situation in their countries, Europe and the world

Today, the President of the Republic of Slovenia, Borut Pahor, had a telephone conversation with the President of the Federal Republic of Germany, Frank-Walter Steinmeier. President Steinmeier first expressed his sincere gratitude for the video message in German from President Pahor, which he understood as a gesture of friendship and solidarity.

The two presidents then exchanged information on the current situation in both countries. They agreed that the conditions are allowing for a gradual and cautious return to normal life.

For the most part, the two presidents focused on the situation and relations in the European Union. They highlighted the importance of solidarity and cooperation between countries and expressed their expectation for faster and more efficient action by EU institutions.

They agreed that countries closing themselves off and losing faith in the European project would pose a great risk in the current circumstances. They deemed the preservation of democratic values and the sense of community and all things shared as extremely important.

Both presidents advocated for a more effective participation at the global level, as this is the only way to mitigate the problems that the pandemic is causing around the world.
