President Pahor welcomes German President Steinmeier on official visit to Slovenia

President Pahor is hosting German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier on a two-day official visit to Slovenia.

After an official reception with military honours, President Steinmeier laid a wreath on the monument to all victims of wars and war-related violence in Congress Square in Ljubljana. President Pahor and President Steinmeier then met for a face-to-face discussion. This was followed by a brief statement to the press, in which on the occasion of Europe Day the two presidents also spoke about the joint call for Europe from twenty-one (21) European presidents before the European Parliament elections at the end of May. President Pahor noted that this is the first time in history that all of the presidents of the countries of the European Union had signed a joint call to the citizens of Europe to support Europe in the upcoming elections. “This indicates our shared belief that we have found ourselves at a major crossroads regarding the future of Europe, and that the time leading up to the elections could be decisive regarding the direction the European Union will take after them. We usually ask what we can get from Europe, but now we find ourselves in a position where we can give her something. Every one of us. Our vote, said the president, who concluded his statement by quoting the joint call: “Our united Europe needs a strong vote by the peoples. This is why we call on you to exercise your right to vote. It is our common European future that is on the ballot.

During the German president’s official visit to Slovenia, President Pahor will host a ceremonial dinner at the President’s Office in honour of President Steinmeier. Presidents Pahor and Steinmeier will conclude the first day of the visit by attending a concert in Congress Square as part of the celebrations for Europe Day.
