President Pahor in Monaco with Prince Albert II at charity event to support work of missionary Pedro Opeka
Monaco, 17. 7. 2019 | press release
President of the Republic of Slovenia Borut Pahor is on a one-day working visit to the Principality of Monaco, where he met with His Serene Highness Albert II, Sovereign Prince of Monaco.
In Monaco, President Pahor first met with Prince Albert II at the Prince’s Palace. In the evening, as guests of honour and long-time patrons, they both attended a charity dinner in honour of the missionary Pedro Opeka, which was arranged by Princess Ira von Fürstenberg.
The purpose of the charity event was to promote Opeka’s missionary activity as an important element of development assistance as well as to ensure funds for his work. The long-standing efforts of Opeka in Madagascar are proof that it is possible to contribute to the social and economic progress of developing countries in such an original and unique way. The charity dinner was an opportunity to raise funds through donations in support of Opeka’s continued work; in addition, money from the sale of unique items made from crystal will go to the charity organisation Akamasoa. Along with the honorary patrons President Pahor and Prince Albert II, the charity dinner was also attended by Opeka.
Last summer in the Vatican, Pope Francis held a private audience for President Pahor, Prince Albert II and Opeka. Pope Francis, who is expected to visit Madagascar soon, was briefed on plans to help the poor and the orphans being cared for by Opeka.
