President Pahor receives Prince Edward at the Presidential Palace

Ljubljana, 15. 5. 2019 | press release

The President of the Republic of Slovenia, Borut Pahor, is hosting His Royal Highness, Prince Edward, Earl of Wessex, the youngest son of Queen Elizabeth II, on his visit to Slovenia.

President Pahor first received Prince Edward in the Presidential Palace in the morning, and then they attended the MEPI event in Tivoli Park together. President Pahor and Prince Edward met over 200 young people who organise workshops in various fields and learned about the skills the young people mastered the most and how the programme benefits them. In order to commemorate the meeting, President Pahor and Prince Edward planted a tree together with young people as a symbol of friendship between the United Kingdom and Slovenia, and enjoyed the performance of young talents from the British International School of Ljubljana and Škofja Loka Gimnazija.

MEPI is the internationally recognised youth programme enabling young people aged 14 to 25 to become actively involved in various activities in order to discover, develop and realise their potential. Prince Edward is the Chairman of the Trustees of The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award Foundation and is a special honorary patron of the programme, and President Pahor is the honorary patron of the MEPI programme in Slovenia.

On the occasion of Prince Edward’s first visit to the Republic of Slovenia in 2013, President Pahor and Prince Edward handed out gold awards to 51 Slovenian participants in the MEPI programme.
