Pahor welcomes the Prespa Agreement, the most important agreement in the Western Balkans since Dayton
Ljubljana, 17. 6. 2018 | press release
The President of the Republic of Slovenia welcomes today's signing of an agreement between the governments of Macedonia and Greece. He finds that this is the most important agreement concerning the resolution of an important issue between neighbours in the Western Balkans since the Dayton Accord.
Both prime ministers reached the agreement amicably, in a spirit of mutual respect and recognition of mutual interests. The President of the Republic of Slovenia, Borut Pahor, has made efforts on behalf of the Republic of Slovenia to reach this agreement for many years, at both the bilateral level with the authorities in Skopje and Athens as well as within the Brdo Brijuni Process and in the European Union.
In his opinion, the agreement restores the great hope that, with political courage, mutual trust and respect, and persistent dialogue, very difficult issues dealt with by the countries in the Western Balkans, i.e. in South-Eastern Europe, can be resolved.
