Slovenia welcomes the agreement between the prime ministers of Macedonia and Greece concerning Macedonia’s name and its EU and NATO memberships
Ljubljana, 13. 6. 2018 | press release
The President of the Republic of Slovenia, Borut Pahor, welcomes the agreement between the governments in Athens and Skopje to resolve the dispute on Macedonia’s name and its EU and NATO membership.
Slovenia has always made efforts to find an acceptable solution for the two neighbouring countries. During this time, it has fostered friendly relations with both countries, and encouraged them to resolve the issue, which has blocked Macedonia's Euro-Atlantic path for nearly three decades.
Slovenia welcomes the determination of both prime ministers to find a solution acceptable to both sides, even though the path to full implementation is still long and uncertain. President Pahor, also as co-chair of the Brdo Brijuni Process, which convened in Skopje in April, sees this agreement as one of the most important encouraging signals regarding the resolution of bilateral and multilateral issues in the Western Balkans for peace, security, and the Euro-Atlantic perspective of this region.
